Grade 1/2 HS would like to welcome everybody back to school. We were all so busy and excited coming back from our Easter holidays, we decided to write Holiday Recounts to share our experiences. The children planned their pieces, structured their writing, edited it and then typed up a final draft. They all did a wonderful job! Here are a few of the children’s recounts:

On the holidays I stayed home while my mum, Harper and Indiana were gone. It was kinda fun. But it was boring because I only played the playstation and basketball. I watched movies but I had a good time with my dad. I cleaned my game room and bedroom then I watched more movies.
I went to my nan and pops house then I came home and went to bed. When I woke up I had breakfast then I played the playstation and I played fortnite with Lars. Then we had lunch of fish and chips. Then my cousin came over, we had a good time. On Thursday I had footy training and my dad took me. I had a good holiday.

On the weekend I bought a new Dog-man book and finished it in one day! And it was really really cool! Then I went to jump and climb and climbed to the top of a tower and touched the button on top.

On the holidays, it was best because I went to Lakes Entrance for the day and it was a lot of fun and I got to see my family. I woke up and Easter bunny had been I woke up my mum and dad. I couldn't wake up my sister because she was already awake. Then I went to my Nan’s house and I got to play with my cousins because they were at my Nan’s house, with their baby brother. It was so fun. Finally, I went to my older cousins. I got lots of easter eggs. I got to play with my cousin Olivia. I wanted to stay over for the night. But I didnt.
Last I went to Tambo Crossing, I helped my Dad cut down trees to use as firewood.I made a cubby and it was very cold. I also had two icy poles at the same time, it was funny. My friend came over abd we played in the tree house with me. She stayed for dinner, we had chicken wings and chips and nuggets. I had lots of fun.

On the holidays on the first day I went on a train with my family. Next I went on a bus. And later I went on a boat. And on the next day I went to the waterslide with my daddy and after that I went to his office and I watched Emily’s computer, my mum and dad were cleaning the office

On the school holidays my dog got hit by a car, she lost a tooth and she went to the vets. when I got up to go to the toilet I saw Xavier and dad crying and I asked them why they were crying and they said Saide got hit by a car and then I started to cry and I thought that I was going to have a terribe holidays but i actually had a good one. I went to jump and climb and it was fun because my cousins came. Then we went to Macca's. They came back to my house. We watched T.V.
Finally I went motorbike riding. We got a photo of me, Xavier and Nouh. We went on the track I we did a rasedu I was at the start of the track. Nouh went first. He put his hands in the air and it made a noise then he took off. I did the same. It was fun!

On the school holidays I went to Bendigo for my brother's squad tournament. It was fun. First I went into the pool and it was freezing. On the second day my brother had his first game he lost the game by 5 points, and won a game by 30 points, lost another by 1 point in overtime and lost the last by a lot.
When we got to our cabin I went to the jumping pillow and played basketball. It was fun. When my brother, mum, dad and I got home I played on my PS4 with Xavier. The end.
With a busy and productive Term 1 behind us, followed by a much needed holiday break, we are all happily engaged in the start to Term 2. The children have settled beautifully into the new term and are making the most of being back together again.
During the school holidays we had the big tree at the back of the playground pulled down. The tree was estimated to be approximately 140 years old and was dead throughout the centre. This had been flagged as requiring to be pulled down and, following an extensive effort to gain permission, we were finally able to engage an arborist to have the work completed during the recent term holidays. This was an enormous task and required a great deal of preparation, planning and follow up work to ensure our playground was again ready and safe for Term 2. Drop and Leave did a wonderful job of removing the tree and, despite a valiant effort from some of our staff and parents, they returned to chop the pieces into smaller lots so that our parents could come and collect it. While the playground sustained some damage, we have thankfully been able to have that repaired, rather than the replacement we were anticipating. It was a successful operation and enables us to provide a very safe playground for our students and staff. While this was a costly exercise, it was imperative that this work was done to ensure our school is safe.
We have had a positive start to the year, with thanks to our Parents and Friends for the wonderful work they did in Term 1 to enable us to raise some much appreciated funds for the school. These funds will help us to provide further learning opportunities and equipment for our students. There are many wonderful fundraising activities being planned for Term 2, including our Mother’s Day raffle and stall and our Fun Run. We really appreciate the support you continue to give to our fund raising efforts. A big thank you to our families also for the donations you have given for our Mother’s Day stall and raffle. The prizes are beautiful and your generosity has added a lovely arrangement of items for our Mother’s Day stall.
We continue to pray for all of the students in our school. At the moment we are praying especially for those who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of First Communion this weekend. We hope it is a wonderful celebration for the children and their families.
Kind regards
Lisa Broeren

With the cooler weather coming parents may be thinking of warmer clothing for your child. Uniform orders are placed online through CDFpay. Link & price list below.
Helpers Needed!
We need some helpers for the Uniform Shop. We need someone to help fill online orders a couple of times a week and unpack stock as it comes in. We are also thinking of opening the Uniform Shop one afternoon a week, so parents can bring their children in to try on uniforms. However we can only do this if we can get some volunteers to help in the shop. We would only require assistance from approximately 3.00pm to 3.30pm once or twice a week, depending on how many helpers we get. If you can help please leave your name at the office.
If families have any uniforms that their childen have grown out of, we would love it if you would consider donating them to the Uniform Shop. We have families who would benefit from your kind donation. All second hand uniforms and school bags are sold for $5.00 with the proceeds going to classroom resources.
Thank you
Nicki Donelly, has been our dedicated Uniform Shop coordinator for many years, Nicki stepped down at the beginning of the year and we wish to thank her for all of the hours she has donated to our school. Your time and committment has been very much appreciated.
Fiona Peatey has graciously stepped in to coordinate the Uniform Shop, this is in addition to her role as President of the P&F. Thank you Fiona.
If you are able to help Fiona in the uniform shop, we would be most grateful.
Our Colour Explosion School Fun Run is on Friday 14th May. Sponsorship booklets went home at the end of last term. If you need another one please contact the office.
Students should start organising sponsors now; your child can accept donations online by creating a cybersafe fundraising profile at myprofilepage.com.au. You can also collect cash donations with your sponsorship booklet. Please return your donations on the 14th of May, the day of the fun run.
You can order your child’s prizes online at myprofilepage.com.au between 11/05/21 and 17/05/21. Or complete the back page of your sponsorship booklet when you return your cash donations. Order one prize based on the total amount of dollars raised, or mix and match smaller prizes. Mellissa will contact students individually if prizes have not been ordered online.
The students will have an early lunch on the day at 12pm where we will have a sausage sizzle ($2 per sausage) for any child wishing to purchase them. These do not need to be preordered and children are welcome to bring their own lunch if they do not wish to purchase a sausage. The Fun Run will start at 1pm.
Parents are allowed to come watch and cheer your child on, you will just need to sign in at the gate as you arrive.
Don't forget children need a white T-Shirt to wear during the run, to get the full colour explosion experience.
Canteen
Could parents please ensure that they put enough money in lunch order envelopes to cover the total cost of the order. There was a high number of orders this week that did not have enough money in them! This is unfair to our Canteen coordinator Heather Clarkson, who still fills the lunch orders even though she is being short changed.
Perhaps consider using a small ziplock plastic bag instead of an envelope, that coins could possibly fall out of.

Playgroup
Our Playgroup has recommenced. It is every Monday (during school terms) 9.00am in the Hall. Could you please bring a piece of fruit to share.
Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you there!
