National Young Leaders Day
On Monday the 24th of May the Mini Oblates (7, Year 6 Leaders) had the opportunity to go to Melbourne and hear inspirational stories from a range of Australian Leaders.
The students heard from speakers such as Josh Pyke (musician), Lachie Smart (he set the world record for the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world), Jordan Lewis (AFL Player and Coach), Jimmy Rees (aka Jimmy Giggle/Actor) and Michelle Young (Deputy Commissioner - Fire Safety).
The students had an incredible time and left feeling inspired to become even greater leaders at our school and in the community.
“My favourite part of the day was listening to Josh Pyke’s new song” - Erica Amaira.
“The firefighter inspired me'' said Nicholas Dunne, “because she was told she couldn’t become a firefighter but she defied the odds and went on to become one.”
Dear Parents,
As we begin another lockdown and remote learning phase, may I take this opportunity to remind you that the most important focus for your family is your well-being. At this time of the year, with Winter approaching, we are given this opportunity to spend time as a family, sharing time together in the warmth of your home.
While learning is important and our amazing staff are providing your child/children with rich learning opportunities while they are at home, please remember that the time you spend over this next week needs to enrich your lives, not stress your family and create challenges beyond what we are already facing. If you are unsure of anything, please ask! We are all available to you to provide support and direction, whether your child is learning from home or needing to come to school. The teachers will be providing a range of learning opportunities for your child to engage in. The amount of learning your child completes will be dependent on your family and each individual child’s needs. We completely understand that for some children and for some families learning from home can be very challenging and we are all here to support you. For those of you who have not been part of our online learning community in previous remote learning phases, please keep in regular contact with your child’s teacher through See Saw or emails so that they can give you any help you need.
We have been informed that school will return next Friday and we are hopeful that this will be the case. We will continue to keep you informed through See Saw and emails, ensuring you are kept up to date on the latest information we receive. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to email me and I will do my best to find the answer!
We feel very fortunate that we were able to complete all of the sacraments for this year just before this lockdown. We were also able to participate in a wide range of activities, excursions and incursions. This has been a very busy and productive time and has provided rich learning and exciting opportunities for our students (and staff). Many thanks to our wonderful staff who have sought unique and engaging ways of bringing learning into and outside of the classroom.
As we enter this new lockdown time, I ask you to remember in your prayers those who find these times particularly challenging, those who are unwell and those affected in a range of ways by this pandemic. We ask God for patience, understanding and kindness to ourselves and to each other.
Please look after yourselves, rest, recover and spend time remembering and sharing what it is that makes your family special. See the coming week as a gift to your family where you are given the greatest gift of all – time – with yourself and with each other. Remember, you are part of a wonderful and supportive community and we are all here for you to provide support in any way we can.
Keep well and warm.
Kind regards
Lisa Broeren
