Wonderful Work in Foundation AW
In Foundation we are learning how to write persuasive texts. We have discussed the terms ‘For’ and ‘Against’ and what language to use to ‘persuade’ someone toside with your point of view. Some of the topics we have written about are- ‘Dogs are better than cats.’ ‘Summer is better than winter.’ ‘Apples are better than lollies.’
Check out some of our arguments-
I think dogs are better than cats because they go to the toilet outside. By Flynn
I think Summer is better than Winter because you can eat ice-cream. By Emily
I think apples are better than lollies because apples make you big and strong. By Abigail
I think cats are better than dogs because cats can climb trees. By Levi
I think apples are better than lollies because apples are crunchy and good for your teeth. By Ryley
I think Summer is better than Winter because you can put toys in ice and break them. By Oliver
I think apples are better than lollies because apples are better for your health system. By Sophie
I think dogs are better than cats because you can play ball with a dog. By Madden
Dear Parents
Term 4 has started well at St Mary’s with many new and exciting things happening.
We are very excited that we are now able to announce that Cory Monckton has been appointed as our new Deputy Principal. Cory will also be our REL and will hold a range of other roles. Cory will be full time in the Deputy Principal role next year and we feel very blessed that he has chosen St Mary’s as his new school and look forward to all he will bring to the role. Cory has already had an impact on our school in a positive way and is well liked and respected by our staff and students.
During the recent school holidays Martin, our Maintenance Officer, built a classroom within our Open Learning Area. We will be increasing by one class again next year and this classroom enables us to cater for the increase in our numbers. We will have 230 students at St Mary’s next year.
Over the next few weeks we will be having a skateboarding incursion and the Year 3-6 children will be attending Gumbaya World. We are also moving ahead with our swimming/water instruction safety program later in the term which will be a valuable experience for our children.
This week we had the school nurse visit our Foundation children which is a very worthwhile service that we provide for our families.
We have decided to go ahead with our school fete, which will be held on Sunday November 20. We are excited that we are finally able to have our fete and committed to it being a great success. We will need lots of support from our parent community and will be letting you know closer to the date what assistance we will need. This is a wonderful day for our school and highly regarded by our wider community. I thank our amazing team of volunteers for their dedication and commitment to making sure the fete is a great success.
I have almost completed the Foundation ‘Get to know you’ meetings with all 44 of our Foundation families. These have been a great experience and has enabled me to meet and get to know all of our new children and their parents.
We are currently preparing some of our Year 6 students for the Sacrament of Confirmation and have completed the Parent Meeting and the Commitment Mass. This has been a lovely, prayerful time where our children have focussed on what it means to choose to be members of our faith community. The Sacrament of Confirmation is being celebrated at St Mary’s church, Newborough on Thursday October 27 at 6.00pm.
Kind regards,
Lisa Broeren
