Dear Parents and Carers,
We are currently in enrolment time for our school and we have been welcoming many of our kinder groups to our school. The Year 6 leaders have been enjoying their role of supporting and welcoming the kinder groups to our school. It is always such a joy and proud occasion when our Year 6 leaders have the opportunity to showcase our school through their bright and cheery welcome and the individual support they give to those who come for a visit. The kinder children loved the opportunity to spend some time being a Foundation person for a morning. We have many kinder visits to come and we have also been busy with families having a tour of our school and many new families choosing our school as submit their enrolment forms for next year. This is an exciting and, for some, an overwhelming experience for some families as they set about choosing the right school for their child. If you know anyone with a child who will be starting school next year and is planning for their child to attend St Mary’s, please encourage them to enrol their child as we don’t want anyone to miss out.
This week was Reconciliation Week May 27- June 3
National Reconciliation Week began on 27 May 2023 and concludes on 3 June 2023. May 27 is the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum which saw over 90% of Australians vote to amend the constitution to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to be included in the census and to enable the Government to create laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Referendum raised expectations of the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’, following a ten-year campaign. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Wishing you all a wonderful
weekend.
Kind regards
Lisa
Pentecost Sunday in 2B
Last Sunday, 28th May was Pentecost Sunday, to celebrate 2B created a lapbook all about Pentecost.
Pentecost is a very sacred and special time in the Bible when the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost took place 50 days after Jesus rose from the dead.
The story in Acts 2:1-42 tells how the early followers of Christ came together on Pentecost. Today, Pentecost Sunday is the celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit.
The word, Pentecost, originates from the Greek word for five, “penta,” meaning “the fiftieth day.”
