On Thursday 8th June Year 1 and 2 travelled to Collingwood Children’s Farm. We left school in the pouring rain, but were greeted with sunshine when we arrived!
While at the farm we participated in 2 workshops. The first was visiting and learning about farm animals. Did you know that they use pig hair in paint brushes? Next, the children planted a sugar snap pea and learnt how to be sustainable by growing your own food. Finally, we all got a chance to explore the different parts of the farm. It was such a fun day! When ask what the best part of the day was… most responded with that they loved “it all!!”
environment our school provides.
Next week you will receive your child’s report. For some of you, there will be the challenge that your child hasn’t moved as far along their progression points as you would have hoped or expected. Please know that every child in our school is achieving, striving and doing the best they can to become the learners they are capable of being. A progression point cannot measure the effort and enthusiasm with which they engage in their learning, nor does it show you that your child may have achieved most of the requirements needed to move onto the next progression point, but had not quite got there when the data was collected and the reports were written. I have spoken with the teachers who are completing your children’s reports and all of them are speaking about the pride they feel in the growth their students have made. They speak of the courage your children show when challenged with the discomfort learning can bring. They are proud of every one of their students, and their hope is that you will see your child’s report as simply a representation of their journey of learning. It shows what they have accomplished as well as the learning they are yet to achieve. For some children, the learning is almost there – yet not consolidated enough for the teachers to say they have mastered the learning independently. For others, learning is a challenge and their strength comes in the form of resilience and courage to keep trying – knowing that one day they will get there. This is a time where your positivity and understanding feeds confidence in your child. These reports are an opportunity for you to celebrate your child’s successes and support them in their challenges. I know that reports of any kind can serve to feed our doubts as parents, but they are also an opportunity to build your relationship with your children who truly care about what these reports mean to you. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with your child’s teacher as you both have your child’s best interests at heart.
I hope you all enjoy a wonderful holiday time, with Friday before the holidays and Monday at the end of the holidays as extra days off for your children.
Keep well and warm.
Kind regards
Lisa

CONGRATULATIONS - TOMMY DORAZIO
Tommy raised the most amount of money individually on our School Fun Run. Well done Tommy!
Wanted - Uniform Shop Co-ordinator
We are on the hunt for a new Uniform Shop Co-ordinator to take the reins later this year. Renee Blanford our current Co-ordinator and long time P&F Committee member will be moving on when her daughter Mia graduates at the end of the year.
The uniform shop Co-ordinator is an invaluable member of our P&F team and support to the school. Without them we would be unable to offer uniforms for sale in our shop.
We only need a little of your time, once or twice a week. We need someone to monitor stock levels, place stock orders, pack it away and fill orders placed online by parents.
We also open the Uniform shop (for cash or eftpos orders) to new families during Foundation Transition Days and the day before students commence at the beginning of each school year.
If you think you might be be able to help out, please let Sandi, Renee or someone on the P&F know.
You will not be thrown in the deep end, Renee will stay on hand until the end of the year to make sure that you have full support.
