What’s Happening in Foundation Term 3
In Foundation this term we have been focusing on writing decodable sentences. This means we can hear and record the letters for the sounds we have learnt so far this year. We choose a picture from a Little Learners book each week and generate a sentence for the picture each day. We also include our Heart Words in these sentences.
Last week we looked at the book ‘At the Fun Run.’ Here are some of our sentences:
We ran to the hut and on to the dam.
The sun is hot, we are hot too.
At the end, mum and I had a hug.
We have also been investigating and learning how to speak in full sentences. This will help us when we have to write independently. For a sentence to make sense, it must include a: Who, Do and What. ‘Who’ words tell us the person or animal we are talking about. ‘Do’ words tell us what the person or animal is doing. ‘What’ words tell us what the person or animal has or is using. For example ‘The boy is kicking the soccer ball’. It gives us the ‘Who’ (the boy), it tells us the ‘Do’ (is kicking) and the ‘What’ (a soccer ball).
Check us out enjoying our writing;
Dear Parents
What a joy and privilege it was to be a part of Grandparent’s Day on Thursday this week. Watching the excitement on the faces of the children as they spied their Grandparents in the church was matched only by the joy on the faces of their Grandparents as the children rushed over to give them a big hug and a bright smile. These days are such important celebrations for our school community and ones that we treasure. The church was packed with families as they sang, prayed and shared the beautiful cards that the children had made for their Grandparents. Following the beautiful prayer gathering in the church, the children and their Grandparents made a beautiful artwork together, where each of them traced and coloured their hands to create a tree with the words: “We made this tree so you will know, that I will always love you no matter how much I grow! Happy Grandparents Day, 2023”. It was wonderful to watch the children as they worked with their Grandparents, carefully tracing their hands and then their own, colouring the hands and making a shared piece of artwork for their Grandparents to treasure. The rooms were filled with chatting and laughter, showing just how precious these days, these moments, these experiences are to both the children and their Grandparents. We were quite overwhelmed to see the church bursting at the seams with children snuggled between their Grandparents as they shared this time together. We are reminded of the important role grandparents have in the lives of their Grandchildren, as Anna and Joachim, the grandparents of Jesus, would have played in His life. As a school community we cherish these special days, where our children and their families have the opportunity to spend time together creating precious memories.
Kind regards
Lisa
