Last Friday, all classes participated in a First Aid Incursion. In year 2 the children learnt the DRS,
Danger, Respond, Send acronym. They discussed what to do if they found some one on the lying on
the floor.
We learnt:
D = Danger. Always check for danger and ensure the area is safe for yourself, bystanders and the
patient. For Yr 2, this was things like, spilt water, broken glass, knives, smoke, gas etc.
R= Response Check for a response: ask the person, Hello, can you hear me? Clap your hands to
see if you get a response. If no response, then squeeze their shoulders
S= Send for help. Call Triple Zero (000) for an ambulance or ask a bystander to make the call.
At the end of the session, students played a game of Bingo revising the different concepts they had
learnt. The students enjoyed the incursion and are now ready for any emergency!
We have had a very busy and productive time at St Mary’s with so much learning and
exciting activities throughout the school.
Our Year 3 children have celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation with a beautiful and
very moving ceremony. Our Year 6 children are in the process of preparing for the
Sacrament of Confirmation which will be celebrated on May the 30th .
We have again engaged with Mindfull Aus, with the children in Foundation completing
Phase 1 and 2 and the children from Year 1 to 6 completing Phase 3. Our engagement
with Mindfull Aus has linked beautifully to our Whole School Approach to Positive
Behaviour Support and is creating a connection across the school in how we engage
students in the most positive way. We are all seeing a significant difference in the way our
students engage in their learning, with each other and the language they use to express
their emotions. Working with Mindfull Aus has become a strong and powerful way for us to
support every child so that they are able to become the BEST versions of themselves.
As part of our whole school commitment to the wellbeing of every child, our staff spent a
day working on De-escalation training through the Team Teach program. The learning for
our staff was invaluable as it gave us further skills and understanding of our impact on the
learning and wellbeing of the children. We know that we are the decisive factor within the
classroom – we create the climate for the children in our care. Again, this speaks so well to
the Mindfull Aus learning within our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support
commitment.
We had a wonderful day with our Colour Fun Run. The children enjoyed a sausage sizzle
lunch and a fantastic run where the children were sprayed with colour. We also added
water spraying to our run this year, which added a new element of fun. We raised
$13,905.00, which, after the expenses have been removed, made our school $6,118.28.
The sausage sizzle made us $640.50. This was an amazing effort and, along with the
money raised, was a great experience for the children. We are excited to be able to
purchase valuable resources to support the learning of every child.
We are very grateful to the Parents and Friends for their hard work and dedication. The
money raised will enable us to purchase Maths and Literacy resources for the children.
Throughout the past month, we have participated in a wide range of sporting events. We
are so proud of the students when they represent our school as they commit to giving their
very best both on and off the sporting field.
Kind Regards,
Lisa
The Foundation students have been lucky enough to have a delivery from Henny Penny this week!
The children will get to watch as the chicks hatch their way out of their eggs and develop into chicks. We have already witnessed some chicks hatching and have now been moved into their home with their friends where we can watch them grow.
Today the Foundation students have been able to have a quick cuddle before putting them back into their pen to keep warm!
