Over the last couple of weeks we have been using Pete Cromer an Australian artist as an inspiration for our artwork. The junior students have been working on key basic skills such as; colouring, cutting, pasting and following verbal & visual instructions.
The Foundation students worked on their colouring skills with Dream Birds, and will continue this week with creating their own Dream Bird.
The Grade 1 Students have been focusing on their cutting and glueing skills whilst following a step by step instructional process to create a Big Cats- Lions collage. This week they will have the opportunity to create their own Big Cat Lion.
The Grade 2 students have also been focusing on their cutting and glueing skills whilst following a 3 step process to piece together their animal collages. They have created Big Cats Tigers and Cheetahs collages. They will have the opportunity over the next couple of weeks to create their own Big Cat Tiger or Cheetah.
All juniors' work is displayed in the corridors by their classrooms.
Please feel free to pop in and have a look with your child.
Kim NelsonDear Parents and Carers,
Next Thursday evening our school and church community will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation. We have 14 children who will be receiving this special sacrament. Throughout this term, the children are preparing with their families and with the children in their class by learning about the sacrament and what it means in our lives. The Year 6 students have each chosen a saint that they feel a special connection with. They have researched their chosen saint and have made beautiful posters that speak of the reason their chosen person became a saint, what they did to follow in the footsteps of Jesus in their life, and details that each student feels makes their saint so special. This has been a wonderful opportunity for all our senior children to learn about people who spend their lives doing God’s work.
We wish the following children all the very best as they celebrate this special sacrament. May the Holy Spirit be with you and guide you in your lives.
We congratulate:
Louis Thorpe, Thomas Skinner, Lindsay Dunne, Bianca Schena, Luke Scholes, Penny Anderson, Kaitlyn Laidlaw, Samuel Pavlic, Evie McMahon, Scarlette Geisler, Alaska Larkman, Vince Giacobbe and Brooklyn Lennox-Johns.
I take this opportunity to thank our amazing Craft Ladies on the incredible job they did on our recent Mother’s Day stall and raffle. They are such an important part of our school community and we are so blessed and grateful to have them. The Mother’s Day stall raised $1,737.00 and the raffle raised $967.00. The money raised will go towards our new classroom Maths resources. We thank our families for your support in buying raffle tickets and allowing your children to have the unique experience of bringing money and purchasing gifts from the stall. Watching the children choosing something they are sure their Mums would love is always heartwarming. It was a beautiful celebration of our Mums and a special time for our children to share with their Mum. As always, we thank you for supporting our school and for taking the time to be a part of these special moments in your child’s life.
Today we had our Emergency Lockdown Drill as part of our Emergency Management Plan. The drill went very well and reminds us of the importance of practicing these drills so that we are ready, should we need to enact any of our Emergency Management systems. These form part of our Child Safety practices at St Mary’s.
Kind regards
Lisa
