Foundation SH shows how much they care!

In Foundation we have been learning about how other people live and how we can help others in need. We started by looking at what it means to be a good friend and we brainstormed the things we could do to be a good friend.

We then discussed ‘needs’ and ‘wants’. Although we really want a LOL Doll, Nintendo Switch and lots of lollies, we don’t really need them! The discussion around mobile phones was passionate. Do we need or want a mobile phone? Several students argued that we need one to call 000 if we are in danger, but not if we just want to play games on it. The jury is still out on this one!

Through looking at a day in the life of Anatercia, a 12 year old child from Mozambique, we were able to identify how other people live and how difficult it is for their needs to be met. The children were surprised to see that the things that we take for granted, like running water, are difficult to come by in Mozambique. We thought about all of the things that we use water for and how we come to get it.

Finally, we arrived at Crazy Hair and Sock Day. The children learnt about ways that they can help others, even if they live thousands of kilometres away. While they had a great time parading their crazy locks and fancy socks, they understood that the money we raised was going to support people in need.
