Dear Parents,
As we reach the end of Term 1, we can take the opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful events and experiences our children have had this term.
Our Foundation students have settled beautifully into school life and are busy learning, making new friends and having lots of fun. Across the school the learning has been impressive, with students engaged in a range of learning opportunities and exciting activities. We have had our Beginning of Year Mass, our Welcome BBQ, Parent Teacher Interviews, Year 3/4 camp, local and district swimming competitions, Foundation camp afternoon, Year 1/2 camp afternoon, Mindfull Aus for Foundation to Year 2, The Colour Fun Run, Andrew Chinn Day, the Sacrament of Reconciliation for Year 3 students, our Whole School Athletics Carnival, NAPLAN, our school photos and Open Day. No wonder we are all excited about the upcoming holidays! We thank our staff and parents for the support you continue to give whenever we have special activities happening at school. These days would not be possible if we didn’t have such fantastic staff and parents to support us. It certainly has been an eventful term!
We have our beautiful Mother’s Day celebration in Week 3 of Term 2, on Friday May the 9th. This is a very special time for our Mums and their children as we gather for a breakfast, followed by a Prayer Gathering in St Mary’s church. The highlight of the celebration is always the PowerPoint, with the Mums and their children. Please make sure you send your photo to Georgie as soon as you can.
A reminder that we have a school closure this Friday as we are having a Professional Learning Day for our staff. Also, a reminder that Term 2 begins on Tuesday the 22nd of April, as Monday the 21st of April is Easter Monday.
A reminder that our Enrolments are open and filling fast. If you have a child beginning Foundation next year, please get your enrolments in as soon as you can.
As this term draws to a close, we are thankful for our school community and the way we work together to create a safe, supportive and energised learning space for every child. We know that alone we can achieve so much, but together we can achieve so much more. We look forward to the holidays to rest, spend time with our families, and rejuvenate ready for another exciting and productive term. We keep our staff and families in our prayers as we reach the final stages of the Lenten Season and prepare for Easter.
Kind regards
Lisa
Creative Arts.
What an amazing first term we have had in the Creative Arts!
We started our term exploring ‘What is Art?’ and using our imaginations and creativity to create our art piece that joins together to create our whole school art piece.
It Started With Maybe……Individual = Unique……….Together = Magnificent Community
We then continued our learning to explore Piet Mondrian, a very famous Dutch Artist who was the pioneer of Abstract Art. His work was composed of 4 key elements: shape, colour, line and space. The students learnt more about Piet, his creations and why he chose to make art that was simple and basic.
Students then got the opportunity to create their own Piet Mondrian inspired work.
The Foundation's focus was primary colours and shapes.
Grade 3’s and 4’s explored primary colours, space and working with canvas and tape.
We then went on to create our own Free Form (Non Objective) Abstract Art. Student’s had to use their imagination to come up with a unique piece using the four elements of Shape, Colour, Line and Space.
They look absolutely AMAZING!
Well Done for a terrific first term. ENjoy your holidays and I can’t wait to have you back in the Art Room creating more wonderful pieces next term!
Mrs Nelson
We’ve had an exciting and busy couple of weeks at Saint Mary’s with the Fun Run full of colour and our athletics day at Joe Carmody. On both occasions 2D students
dressed up for the occasion and were keen to get started.
They particularly loved the hurdles and the 80 metre sprints.
The Colour Fun Run was a fabulous day had by all. Thank you to the parents and staff that made this day a successful one.
