School Attendance guidelines specify that all schools must contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the day of an unexplained student absence.

Protecting the safety and well-being of children through the reporting and monitoring of absenteeism is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Parents/carers have an obligation to notify the school of their child’s absence and schools are required to notify parents/carers on the day of an unexplained student absence.

If your child is sick or absent, you are required to notify the school as soon as possible on the day of absence, by:

1. Online: via the school website, Absentee Form; https://stmnewbor.schoolzineplus.com/absentee
2. Telephone: the school office on 51272342 and let the staff know your child’s name, class and reason for absence.
3. Email: the school at sprekop@stmnewbor.catholic.edu.au and provide your child’s name, class, date of absences and reason.
4. SMS: send a text message to the school mobile 0476 002 825. Please include child’s name, class, date of absences and reason.
5. School App: send a message using our School App; SZapp

Notifying the school of your child’s absence either prior to, or on the day that they will be away, helps ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and will fulfil your legal responsibility.

If your child is absent and you have not contacted the school, we will let you know by SMS, initially, followed by a phone call or email. If you can’t be reached the school will attempt to make contact with any emergency contact/s nominated on your child’s file held by the school. Where possible, this contact will be made on the same day of the unexplained absence.
