Luke Scholes has received an invitation to join the Gippsland Sports Academy Individual Athletes Program as a result of the attitude, commitment and dedication he has displayed in his chosen sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Luke, a Grade Six student, has been training and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) for the club Cia Paulista Australia since the age of six.

Luke regularly travels to Melbourne on weekends to participate in interclub competitions. Luke has received some outstanding results this year having won a silver medal at the Oceania Kids Jiu Jitsu Championships in March, a gold medal at the Victorian Jiu Jitsu Championships in May, a bronze medal at the Australian Jiu Jitsu Championships in August, and a gold medal in the Pan Pacific Kids Jiu Jitsu Championships in October.

Luke was the winner of the October 2023 Junior Gippstar Award, presented to him at the annual awards night held in August this year.

Younger sister Aimee Scholes has started competing this year, winning a silver medal at the Australian Jiu Jitsu Championships in Melbourne and a bronze medal at the South Australian Jiu Jitsu Championships in Adelaide.
