Catholic Education Week- Art Display
In celebration of Catholic Education week we created a whole school art piece to celebrate our wonderful Jubilee year with the theme of 'The Pilgrims of Hope'.
Students learnt about the church's big celebration of the Jubilee that occurs once every 25years. A Jubilee is a special year on the Catholic Calendar that encourages us to build our connection with God whilst having a year filled with joy, hope and starting fresh. We learnt that Pilgrims are people on a special journey. Students understood that they are Pilgrims on a learning journey. When we walk together as a group to a sacred place (our school church) we are a pilgrimage.
Once we had an understanding of the Jubilee and being a Pilgrim we explored what hope means. Hope is when we believe something good can happen even if we don't know when or how.
We explored the Jubilee symbol for this year and gained an understanding that the symbol represents four people from the four corners of the earth all embracing one another. The cross represents our faith and it is anchored in the rough seas that represent the ups and downs of life.
All classes contributed to the display as listed below:
Foundation- Learnt about Aboriginal Art with the hand meaning 'belonging'.
Grade 1s- 2 types of textured art for the sky background (bubble art & bubble wrap art)
Grade 2s- 2 types of textured art for the sea background (floating chalk art & marble foam art)
Grade 3s- Zentangle Jubilee 2025 & Pilgrims of
Grade 4's- Surrounding words in creative lettering
Grade 5/6O- Large recreation of symbol
Grade 5/6M- Large creation of Anchor
Grade 5/6SR- Large textured HOPE
Then as a school we created our St Mary's Garden of Hope
This garden represents our understanding of Hope with each piece having a hope for ourselves (a personal hope) or a more general hope (a hope for others or our world).
The students contributed to this section of the display as follows:
Foundation- Our Path of Hope (Footprints with a world hope)
                  - Paper flowers (Centre circle with a personal hope)
Grade 1's- Egg carton flowers
Grade 2's- Pipe cleaner Daisies
Grade 3/4's- Lavender paper flowers
Grade 5/6's- Painted glass stones (message of hope on the underneath)
(Each of the flowers has a leaf with a hope that the student feels is important to them written on it and the stones have a hope of importance written on the underneath).
A lot of hard work, concentration and effort has gone into this wonderful piece and I am extremely proud of all classes for trying their best and sticking with it. The art piece looks magnificent.
