On Tuesday the Year 5/6 classes had the opportunity to attend the Tabloid Sports day at Lowanna College. Our students, along with students from various local primary schools, participated in 18 activities of modified sports. This was organised by students involved in Lowanna’s sport’s program. These included netball, basketball, rugby, cricket, athletics, volleyball, soccer and football.
After lunch all teams competed in a European handball tournament where St Mary’s Team B made their way to the grand final. They played hard and fast but alas they had to share their victory with St Kieran’s in a drawn game, one goal all.
The students enjoyed the day with many of the year 5 students looking forward to next year's competition. Here is what they had to say about their experience:
Georgia P: “I was tired, sweaty and hot, but I still played my best and really enjoyed it.”
Maisy: “I really enjoyed playing the different variety of sports, it was very competitive.”
Eva: “It was great to play sports against other schools.”
Mason: “ I felt like I was in front of so many people competing in the grand final, it made me nervous but I was proud of the way I played.”
Oakleigh: “ I wanted the activities to go for longer because I enjoyed playing them so much.”
Mia: “ I was pretty proud of my team getting into the grand final, it was exciting.”
Keira: “ My favourite part was the European Handball competition even though my team didn’t get through to the grand final.”
Georgia Mc: “ I’m hoping we get a chance to play again next year when I am in Year 6.”
Shiloh: “ I like the competition and the crowd cheering on my team in the grand final.”
Dear Parents
We are so excited to be able to welcome you into the school again and we have so much going on!
We are particularly excited to be able to welcome all vaccinated parents to our weekly assemblies! The assemblies are at 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon. We look forward to seeing you there if you would like come along and join us.
This week the Craft Group started again and we warmly welcome you to join with the members of the Craft Group every Tuesday morning at 9.00am in the school hall. Our amazing Craft ladies make an impressive assortment of wonderful gifts for our Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, they coordinate and prepare all of the Easter raffle prizes, just to name a few of the amazing things they do to support our school. They would love for you to come along and join them.
We are also able to start our Playgroup up again. Our Playgroup is on Monday mornings and starts at 9.00am. We are looking for volunteers to come along and help set up and organise activities as our current Playgroup coordinators are no longer able to run the sessions. They are very happy to work with anyone who would be prepared to take over running the Playgroup to ensure a smooth and supported transition. This is a great opportunity for our Mums and Dads to get together with their little ones, to have a catch up and for the children to socialise.
Next Tuesday we will be having our Parents and Friends Annual General Meeting at 6.30pm in the staff room. We warmly welcome you to come along, have a cuppa and meet some fantastic parents who dedicate their time and talents to raising money for our school so that we can provide extra resources and activities for our students. They are an enthusiastic and wonderful group of parents who meet each month to create new and innovative ways to raise money. After two years where we have barely been able to meet, we are very excited to be back together again. If you have any questions or need any clarification, please email or speak with me.
Also a reminder that we are having our school photos next Thursday, March 31. Please ensure that your child is in full school uniform, complete with school or neutral coloured hair accessories. We have such a beautiful, smart looking uniform and, when all of the children are in full school uniform it is so impressive. Please make sure you have your child’s envelope with them on the day, or handed to your child’s class teacher beforehand.
Another reminder that we have our school closure this Friday as our staff are engaging in a professional development day. We thank you for your understanding regarding these days. It is essential that we provide further professional learning for all members of our staff.
Please make sure you fill in the Out of School Hours Care form that was sent to you through See Saw. If we are able to have the numbers required, we will provide this service to our families. We are aware however, that we can only run this program if we have sufficient numbers requiring the service. If you need any assistance in filling out the form, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
This week is Harmony Week from Monday March 21 until Sunday March 27. The focus is on “Everyone Belongs”, celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity. It is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. I wish you all a very happy Harmony Week.
Kind regards
Lisa Broeren

Working With Childrens Check
It is a requirement that any parent who volunteers or visits the school must hold a valid Working With Childrens Check card (WWCC). While we have not had many occasions recently to have visitors in the school we are hopeful that will change soon.
A Working With Children Check is free for volunteers, applications are done online through the link below. Once you receive your card, please send a copy to the office to be placed on file. Thank you.
