Year 5/6B have started 2023 with much enthusiasm and are engaging in their learning, making new friends and eager to be leaders in our school.
We have been working on our BEST approach in our learning and the relationships that we have with our peers, teachers and school community. We have been spending time talking and examining what being our BEST means and would look like in our classrooms and our school.
BEST is an acronym for:
Building Relationships
Excel in everything you do
Stay safe everywhere
Take responsibility for your learning
Here are some of the ways that we know will help us to be and do our BEST.
- Use whole body listening. When someone talks to you, listen with your eyes, your ears, your mouth, your hands, your feet, your brain, your body and your heart.
- Ask questions, be kind and helpful. Socialise
- Make good choices about who you work with.
- Focus on and ask questions about your learning.
- Take on feedback and make good choices.
- Talk to people and interact with them.
- Make eye contact with the people you are talking too.
- Be a good listener.
- Stay on task.
-
- Set goals.
- Have a growth mindset.
- Learn from your errors and move forward.
Here are some photos of us doing our BEST.
Dear Parents
This week we entered the season of Lent as we recognised Shrove Tuesday which gave the classes an opportunity to make pancakes and share what this day means in our Christian faith. On Wednesday our Year 3-6 children attended the Ash Wednesday Mass and our Year 1 and 2 children had a prayer gathering and sprinkling of ashes in their classroom. This was a wonderful way to introduce the new season of Lent across the school. The season of Lent encourages us to go outside of ourselves to serve others and learn what it truly means to live out the love of Jesus.
Our Year 6 Mini Oblates have begun their year of mission and service as they work in pairs rotating through recesses and lunchtimes supporting the children in the playground. There is a wonderful buzz of energy and enthusiasm from all of our Mini Oblates as they can tangibly see the difference they are making across the school. The teachers have been very impressed with their maturity, dedication, support and enthusiasm. Our Year 6 leaders are also doing a wonderful job with their Foundation buddies. It is so heart-warming to watch the support these leaders are giving to their Foundation buddies. It is also wonderful to see the impact this leadership opportunity is having to our Year 6 leaders.
Our assemblies are going really well and we thank our parents for coming along and supporting this. Just a reminder that we have assemblies every second Friday afternoon in the Church at 2.15pm. It is a wonderful way to feel a part of our school community.
Wishing you all a prayerful and peaceful Lenten time.
Kind regards
Lisa
Playgroup
We would love for our St Mary's Playgroup to begin again this year, however the parents who ran it last year are no longer available. If any parents have a little time to spare and would be prepared to run and open up on the morning of playgroup, I would be most grateful if you could contact me. The day has been Mondays at 9.00am in the past, however this day is flexible if the parents who are able to run it need it to be on a different day. It would be such a shame if we could not offer this lovely experience to our school community. Please contact me by phone, email or catch up with me in the school yard.
Thank you. Lisa
